Applications of BBa_K1966000
This part has been shown to be functional for the following activities:
1)Conversion of toluene to benzyl alcohol 2)Conversion of m-xylene to 3-methylbenzyl alcohol 3)Conversion of m-xylene to 4-methylbenzyl alcohol
This activity is seen within the composite part BBa_K1966003 in the following figure. This part (P. putida xylene monooxygenase, or XO) is necessary for conversion of substrate to a respective alcohol. This part was not shown to function in the case of conversion of 3-chlorotoluene, m-anisole, and p-anisole to their respective alcohols, though it has been demonstrated in literature previously (1). This lack of activity is likely due to experimental conditions and low oxygen availability, as XO is oxygen-dependent.
Conversion via BBa_K1966000 from toluene, m-xylene, and p-xylene to their respective aromatic alcohols (listed above) is seen in the chromatograms below, as well as subsequent conversion of each alcohol to an aromatic aldehyde (via part BBa_K1966001).
Further characterization will be attempted for the following functions:
1)Conversion of 3-chlorotoluene to 3-chlorobenzyl alcohol 2)Conversion of m-anisole to 3-methoxybenzyl alcohol 3)Conversion of p-anisole to 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol
Registry information will be updated as to whether or not these functions have been shown.
